The Business Collective wanted to know what ten of us entrepreneurs learned when we were employees—after all, it shapes how we run our business and treat our own workers! I learned to always put my family first. It doesn’t matter how successful you are in business if you don’t nurture relationships with your partner and/or children. Without these relationships, nothing is worthwhile.
I remember hearing this advice when I was working late (again) and missing out on things going on at home. I quickly changed my habits, and make no mistake: It will be an adjustment. These days, I wake up early so I can get business taken care of, and leave the office no later than 5:30pm each day. My life is so much better, both at work and at home!
Other tips include realizing you’re only as good as your Rolodex, since networking will often make or break your path to success. Also, don’t be afraid to dream bigger. So many people stunt their dreams under the falsity of being “realistic.” It takes dreaming and doing, but without proper and massive dreaming, you’re only going to “do” so much. Knowing how to sell and listen (the two go hand in hand!) are also gems to keep in mind.
